Novak eyes Monte Carlo trophy without Martin

Belgrade, April 14. 2010 (Source: Blic) - The clay-court season on the men’s tennis tour is on, starting with a Masters 1000 event in Monte Carlo this week and with its grand finale at the eagerly anticipated French Open in Paris in late May and early June. Given the fact world’s number one will miss out on the Monaco-based event, the Serbian star player has been named seed number one and will therefore have a bye in the opening round. Djokovic’s first opposition will be the winner of the tie between Florent Serra and Stephane Robert, both of France tournament in Monaco last year, having reached the final, where he was beaten at the hands of “king of clay” Rafael Nadal. Looking at the projected draw bracket, Djokovic’s rivals in the third round could be Stanislas Wawrinka or Ernests Gulbis. If everything goes according to plan for the Serb in the early stages, he is likely to cross paths with compatriot Viktor Troicki in the quarter-finals, while the two will be playing together in the doubles event at Monte Carlo. Other prominent players in the singles draw are Mikhail Youzhny, David Nalbandian and Tommy Robredo. Djokovic’s potential opponents in the semi-final are Croatia’s Marin Cilic, Fernando Verdasco and in-form Tomas Berdych. The other section of the draw will feature title-defender Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, home crowd’s favourite Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, as well as Spanish representatives Juan Carlos Ferrero and David Ferrer. Ahead of his trip to Monte Carlo, Djokovic has announced he has terminated his cooperation with coach and former US tennis star Todd Martin. “I will not be working with Martin any longer as I can’t work with two coaches at the same time. Marian [Vajda] and Todd did not see eye to eye in some respects, and I was forced to opt for one of them. The choice was my permanent coach Vajda and I hope we continue to have a positive cooperation. As for Martin, I can only have words of praise for him and I stress we parted ways in a very positive and friendly atmosphere. He shared everything he had with me, especially the vast experience he has from his professional playing career,” said Djokovic ahead of the Monte Carlo event.

Wozniacki awaits Jelena in final

Belgrade, April 13. 2010 (Source:Blic) - Jelena Jankovic has arrived in Charleston, South Carolina, with high expectations. Serbia’s women’s number one has been named second seed for the WTA tournament and will be aiming to claim the title at the $700,000 event for a second time in her career. Judging by her current run of fine forJankovic has a bye in the first round, and will be taking on the winner of the match between Romania’s Edina Gallovits and home player Varvara Lepchenko. As things stand in the main draw, Jankovic should not have major trouble reaching the quarter-final, where her most likely opponent will be Slovakia’s Daniela Hantuchova. In the semis, Jankovic could cross paths with her old rival Marion Bartoli or Australia’s Samantha Stosur, who she has recently played against on two occasions – at Indian Wells and Miami – with mixed fortunes from the two matches. If there are no big upsets along her way to the title, Jankovic’s biggest challenge will be in the final against Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark. “I love to play at Charleston. I have good memories of the event and I hope I get a good result this year,” said Jankovic. The organizers of the event had been hoping a few other major tennis stars of the women’s tour would be taking part at Charleston, but both Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova have withdrawn due to injuries. “We would love it Serena and Maria could have played here, but you can’t do anything about injuries. We will have world’s number two Caroline Wozniacki, and also former champions Jelena Jankovic and Nadia Petrova. I think it will be a very exciting event,” said Charleston tournament director.

Belgrade, March, 27. 2010 (Serbia Today) - Milan Stankovic's song "This is the Balkans," which will represent Serbia at Eurovision this year in Oslo, keeps jumping at the music rating charts that accompany this musical competition.

Most European radio stations received the Serbian track ten days ago which also helped the better ratings At the last week's meeting of heads of delegation in Oslo, the order of the performance of countries in both semi-finals is determined . It is interesting that at the beginning of the meeting, our delegation drew the so-called wild card, which includes the privilege of a country that is lucky to be chosen under which the serial number will appear in the semifinals. Given that the first vote in January determined to perform in the first part of the first semi-final 25th May, representatives of our delegation were able to choose from first to eighth position, and have chosen to perform the seventh.

Milan Stankovic has already started a promotional tour of Europe, and so far his performances have been confirmed in Romania, Belgium, the Netherlands and Poland, while the current contract performances in France and Greece. At the first European betting favorite is still Azerbaijan, which is a young singer Safura with "Drip Drop", followed by Israel and Denmark. According betting forecasts "William Hill", Milan Stankovic was the odd position twelfth with 26 quota, which is a big jump from last week when the odds on his victory was over the 50th As for the former Yugoslav republic, Croatia is the best rated, represented by the group Feminnem and which occupies the fifth place with a high 11th quota.
